[672] Therein, what is doubt (vicikicchā)?
About the Teacher one is uncertain, one doubts; about the Dhamma one is uncertain, one doubts; about the Saṅgha one is uncertain, one doubts; about the training (sikkhā) one is uncertain, one doubts; about the past one is uncertain, one doubts; about the future one is uncertain, one doubts; about both the past and the future one is uncertain, one doubts; about phenomena dependently arisen through specific conditionality (idappaccayatā-paṭiccasamuppannā dhammā) one is uncertain, one doubts. That which is of such a kind — uncertainty, the act of being uncertain, the state of being uncertain, perplexity, doubt, being in two minds, a forked path, wavering, inability to grasp decisively, hesitancy, vacillation, failure to fathom, rigidity of the mind (citta), mental quandary — this is called doubt.
