[753] Therein, which is the hindrance of doubt (vicikicchā-nīvaraṇa)?
One is uncertain about the Teacher, one doubts; one is uncertain about the Dhamma, one doubts; one is uncertain about the Saṅgha, one doubts; one is uncertain about the training (sikkhā), one doubts; one is uncertain about the past, one doubts; one is uncertain about the future, one doubts; one is uncertain about both the past and the future, one doubts; one is uncertain about phenomena (dhammā) dependently arisen through specific conditionality (idappaccayatā), one doubts. Whatever of such a kind is uncertainty, the act of being uncertain, the state of being uncertain, perplexity, doubt, being in two minds, a forked path, misgiving, inability to take hold of one side, wavering, hesitation, failure to fathom, rigidity of mind (citta), mental confusion — this is called the hindrance of doubt.
