[902] Which phenomena (dhammā) are associated with root (hetu-sampayutta)?
Setting aside delusion (moha) accompanied by doubt (vicikicchā) and accompanied by restlessness (uddhacca), the remaining unwholesome; the wholesome on the four planes (bhūmi); setting aside the rootless (ahetuka) arisings of mind (cittuppāda) from the resultant (vipāka) of the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), the resultant on the four planes; setting aside the rootless arisings of mind from the sense-sphere functional (kiriyā), the functional indeterminate (kiriyābyākata) on the three planes — these phenomena are associated with root.

Delusion accompanied by doubt, delusion accompanied by restlessness, the two sets of fivefold consciousness (pañca-viññāṇa), the three mind elements (mano-dhātu), the five rootless mind-consciousness elements (mano-viññāṇa-dhātu), form (rūpa), and Nibbāna — these phenomena are dissociated from root.
