[929] Which phenomena (dhammā) are both ties (gantha) and associated with ties?
Wherein view (diṭṭhi) and greed (lobha) arise together, these phenomena are both ties and associated with ties.
Which phenomena are associated with ties yet not ties?
The eight arisings of mind (cittuppāda) accompanied by greed and the two arisings of mind accompanied by grief (domanassa) — setting aside the ties that have arisen therein — these phenomena are associated with ties yet not ties.
Phenomena dissociated from ties should not be said to be either "both ties and associated with ties" or "associated with ties yet not ties."
