[1054] And how is there [the notion] 'By this I am thus'? 'By this I am a khattiya,' or 'By this I am a brahmin (brāhmaṇa),' or 'By this I am a vessa,' or 'By this I am a sudda,' or 'By this I am a householder (gahaṭṭha),' or 'By this I am one gone forth (pabbajita),' or 'By this I am a deva,' or 'By this I am a human being,' or 'By this I am possessed of form (rūpī),' or 'By this I am formless (arūpī),' or 'By this I am percipient (saññī),' or 'By this I am non-percipient (asaññī),' or 'By this I am neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññīnāsaññī)' — in this way there is [the notion] 'By this I am thus.'
