[1068] And how is there [the craving (taṇhā)] 'By this may I be thus'?
There is [the craving] 'By this may I be a nobleman (khattiya),' or 'By this may I be a brahmin (brāhmaṇa),' or 'By this may I be a merchant-farmer (vessa),' or 'By this may I be a labourer (sudda),' or 'By this may I be a householder (gahaṭṭha),' or 'By this may I be one gone forth (pabbajita),' or 'By this may I be a deva,' or 'By this may I be a human being (manussa),' or 'By this may I be one having form (rūpī),' or 'By this may I be one without form (arūpī),' or 'By this may I be percipient (saññī),' or 'By this may I be non-percipient (asaññī),' or 'By this may I be neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññīnāsaññī).' Thus there is [the craving] 'By this may I be thus.'
