[1058] And how is there [the craving] "By this I shall be thus"? There is [the craving] "By this I shall be a noble (khattiya)," or "By this I shall be a brahmin (brāhmaṇa)," or "By this I shall be a merchant (vessa)," or "By this I shall be a worker (sudda)," or "By this I shall be a householder (gahaṭṭha)," or "By this I shall be one gone forth (pabbajita)," or "By this I shall be a deva," or "By this I shall be a human being (manussa)," or "By this I shall be one having form (rūpī)," or "By this I shall be formless (arūpī)," or "By this I shall be percipient (saññī)," or "By this I shall be non-percipient (asaññī)," or "By this I shall be neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññī-nāsaññī)." Thus there is [the craving] "By this I shall be thus."
