[1039] And how is there [the craving] "I shall be thus"?
There is [the craving] "I shall be a nobleman (khattiya)," or "I shall be a brahmin (brāhmaṇa)," or "I shall be a merchant (vessa)," or "I shall be a labourer (sudda)," or "I shall be a householder (gahaṭṭha)," or "I shall be one gone forth (pabbajita)," or "I shall be a deva," or "I shall be a human being (manussa)," or "I shall be one having form (rūpī)," or "I shall be formless (arūpī)," or "I shall be percipient (saññī)," or "I shall be non-percipient (asaññī)," or "I shall be neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññī-nāsaññī)." Thus there is [the craving] "I shall be thus."
