[1069] And how does there come to be [the craving (taṇhā)]: 'By this may I too be thus'? Comparing with another person: 'As that one is a warrior-ruler (khattiya), so by this may I too be a warrior-ruler,' or 'As that one is a brahmin (brāhmaṇa), so by this may I too be a brahmin,' … or 'As that one is neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññīnāsaññī), so by this may I too be neither percipient nor non-percipient.' Thus there comes to be [the craving]: 'By this may I too be thus.'
