[1070] And how is there (the thought), "By this may I be otherwise"? Comparing with another person, (there is the thought): "As that one is a khattiya, by this may I not be a khattiya in that way," or "As that one is a brahmin (brāhmaṇa), by this may I not be a brahmin in that way," … or "As that one is neither percipient nor non-percipient, by this may I not be neither percipient nor non-percipient in that way." Thus there is (the thought), "By this may I be otherwise." These are the eighteen currents of craving (taṇhāvicarita) dependent on the external.
