[1051] And how is there [the thought], "May I be otherwise (apāhaṃ aññathā siyaṃ)"? Comparing [oneself] with another person, [there is the thought]: "As that one is a khattiya, may I not be a khattiya in that way," or "As that one is a brahmin (brāhmaṇa), may I not be a brahmin in that way," … or "As that one is neither percipient nor non-percipient, may I not be neither percipient nor non-percipient in that way." Thus there is [the thought], "May I be otherwise."
These are the eighteen wanderings of craving (taṇhāvicaritāni) dependent on the internal.
