[1046] And how does there come to be [the thought] "May I be so (evaṃ siyaṃ)"? Comparing oneself with another person: "As he is a khattiya, so may I be a khattiya," or "As he is a brahmin (brāhmaṇa), so may I be a brahmin," … or "As he is neither percipient nor non-percipient, so may I be neither percipient nor non-percipient" — thus there comes to be [the thought] "May I be so."
