[1047] And how is there (the craving) "May I be otherwise (aññathā siyaṃ)"? Comparing (oneself) with another person: "As that one is a khattiya (warrior-noble), may I not be a khattiya in that way," or "As that one is a brāhmaṇa (brahmin), may I not be a brāhmaṇa in that way," … or "As that one is neither percipient nor non-percipient (nevasaññīnāsaññī), may I not be neither percipient nor non-percipient in that way" — thus there is (the craving) "May I be otherwise."
