Abhidhammapiṭaka · Vibhaṅga · Vol. 35 · Section 339

[339] Therein, what is "aging-and-death with birth as condition" (jātipaccayā jarāmaraṇaṃ)? There is aging (jarā); there is death (maraṇa). Therein, what is aging? That which is the aging of those phenomena (dhammā), the agedness, the diminution of life span: this is called aging. Therein, what is death? That which is the destruction of those phenomena, the passing away, the breaking up, the disintegration, the impermanence, the disappearance: this is called death. Thus there is this aging and this death. This is called "aging-and-death with birth as condition."
