Abhidhammapiṭaka · Vibhaṅga · Vol. 35 · Section 429

[429] Therein, what is aging-and-death (jarāmaraṇa) with birth (jāti) as condition (paccaya)? There is aging (jarā); there is death (maraṇa). Therein, what is aging? That which is the aging of those phenomena (dhammā), their decrepitude, the dwindling of the life-span — this is called aging. Therein, what is death? That which is the destruction of those phenomena, their passing away, breaking up, disintegration, impermanence (aniccatā), and disappearance — this is called death. Thus, this aging and this death — this is called aging-and-death with birth as condition.
