[1730] [S.] "Is a gift (dāna) purified only by the giver (dāyaka), and not by the recipient (paṭiggāhaka)?" [P.] "Yes." [S.] "Were not the four pairs of persons (purisayugā), the eight individual persons (purisapuggalā), declared by the Blessed One to be worthy of offerings (dakkhiṇeyyā)?" [P.] "Yes." [S.] "If the four pairs of persons, the eight individual persons, were declared by the Blessed One to be worthy of offerings, then indeed, good sir, it should not be said: 'A gift is purified only by the giver, and not by the recipient.'"
