[1713] Sakavādin: It should not be said: "The Saṅgha purifies an offering (dakkhiṇā)"? Paravādin: Yes. S.: Is not the Saṅgha worthy of gifts, worthy of hospitality, worthy of offerings, worthy of reverential salutation, the unsurpassed field of merit for the world? P.: Yes. S.: If the Saṅgha is worthy of gifts … the unsurpassed field of merit for the world, then indeed, good sir, it should be said: "The Saṅgha purifies an offering."
