[653] S. What does the person (puggala) practising for the realization (sacchikiriyā) of the fruition of once-returning (sakadāgāmiphala) abandon by the seeing of suffering (dukkha)?
P. He abandons a fourth part of gross sensual lust (kāmarāga), of gross ill will (byāpāda), and of the defilements (kilesa) standing together with them (tadekaṭṭha).
S. Is he then a once-returner (sakadāgāmī) as to a fourth part, and not a once-returner as to a fourth part? Has he, as to a fourth part, reached, gained, attained, and realized the fruition of once-returning — does he dwell having entered upon it, dwell having contacted it with the body — while, as to a fourth part, he does not dwell having contacted it with the body?
P. It should not be said thus. …
