[670] Sakavādin: Is realization gradual (anupubbābhisamaya)?
Paravādin: Yes.
Sakavādin: But was it not said by the Blessed One: "Bhikkhus, at the time when there arose for the noble disciple (ariyasāvaka) the dustless, stainless eye of the Dhamma (dhammacakkhu) — 'Whatever is subject to origination (samudaya), all that is subject to cessation (nirodha)' — together with the arising of vision (dassana), bhikkhus, three fetters (saṃyojana) are abandoned for the noble disciple: personality-view (sakkāyadiṭṭhi), doubt (vicikicchā), and adherence to rules and rituals (sīlabbataparāmāsa)"? Is there indeed such a discourse (suttanta)?
Paravādin: Yes.
Sakavādin: Then indeed it should not be said that realization is gradual.
