[1021] One who fully understands (parijānāti) the truth of suffering (dukkhasacca) — will he abandon (pajahissati) the truth of origin (samudayasacca)?
No.
Or rather, one who will abandon the truth of origin — does he fully understand the truth of suffering?
No.
One who does not fully understand the truth of suffering — will he not abandon the truth of origin?
Those who will obtain the path (magga) do not fully understand the truth of suffering, yet it is not the case that they will not abandon the truth of origin. The Arahant (arahā), and those ordinary persons (puthujjana) who will not obtain the path — they do not fully understand the truth of suffering, and they will not abandon the truth of origin.
Or rather, one who will not abandon the truth of origin — does he not fully understand the truth of suffering?
One endowed with the supreme path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) will not abandon the truth of origin, yet it is not the case that he does not fully understand the truth of suffering. The Arahant, and those ordinary persons who will not obtain the path — they will not abandon the truth of origin, and they do not fully understand the truth of suffering.
