Uppādanirodhavāra

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (1) · Vol. 38 · Section 792

[792] One who fully understands the eye base (cakkhāyatana) — will that person fully understand the ear base (sotāyatana)? No. Or rather: one who will fully understand the ear base — does that person fully understand the eye base? No. One who does not fully understand the eye base — will that person not fully understand the ear base? Those who will obtain the path (magga) do not fully understand the eye base, but it is not that they will not fully understand the ear base. The Arahant (arahā), and those ordinary persons (puthujjanā) who will not obtain the path — they do not fully understand the eye base and will not fully understand the ear base. Or rather: one who will not fully understand the ear base — does that person not fully understand the eye base? The one endowed with the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) will not fully understand the ear base, but it is not that he does not fully understand the eye base. The Arahant, and those ordinary persons who will not obtain the path — they will not fully understand the ear base and do not fully understand the eye base.
