[1297] One who has the latent tendency (anusaya) of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) — does that one have the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya)?
Yes.
Or, one who has the latent tendency of ignorance — does that one have the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt?
The non-returner (anāgāmī) has the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of conceit, but does not have the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, or the latent tendency of doubt. Two persons have the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of conceit, but do not have the latent tendency of view or the latent tendency of doubt. The ordinary person (puthujjana) has the latent tendency of ignorance and has the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt.
