[1393] One who does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya) and the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya) — does he not abandon the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya)? The person endowed with the highest path (aggamaggasamaṅgī) does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit. Excepting those endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion, and do not abandon the latent tendency of conceit. Or rather, one who does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit — does he not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion? The person endowed with the path of Non-Returning (anāgāmimaggasamaṅgī) does not abandon the latent tendency of conceit, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion. Excepting those endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of conceit, and do not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion. One who does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion — does he not abandon the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya) … the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya)? The eighth person (aṭṭhamaka) does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt. Excepting the person endowed with the path of Non-Returning and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion, and do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt. Or rather, one who does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt — does he not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion? The person endowed with the path of Non-Returning does not abandon the latent tendency of doubt, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion. Excepting the person endowed with the path of Non-Returning and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of doubt, and do not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion. One who does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion — does he not abandon the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya)? The person endowed with the highest path does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance. Excepting those endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion, and do not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance. Or rather, one who does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance — does he not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion? The person endowed with the path of Non-Returning does not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance, but it is not the case that he does not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion. Excepting those endowed with the two paths, the remaining persons do not abandon the latent tendency of ignorance, and do not abandon the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion.
