[1461] One who does not fully understand the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), and the latent tendency of views (diṭṭhānusaya) — does he not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya)?
Yes.
Or rather, one who does not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt — does he not fully understand the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views?
One endowed with the path of non-returning (anāgāmimagga) does not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views, but it is not the case that he does not fully understand the latent tendency of sensual lust and the latent tendency of repulsion. One endowed with the highest path (aggamagga) does not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of views, but it is not the case that he does not fully understand the latent tendency of conceit. Excepting those endowed with the two paths and the eighth person (aṭṭhamaka), the remaining persons do not fully understand the latent tendency of doubt, and they do not fully understand the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, and the latent tendency of views. …
