[1462] One who does not fully understand the latent tendency to sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency to repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency to conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency to views (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency to doubt (vicikicchānusaya) — does he not fully understand the latent tendency to lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency to ignorance (avijjānusaya)?
Yes.
Or rather, one who does not fully understand the latent tendency to ignorance — does he not fully understand the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, the latent tendency to views, and the latent tendency to doubt?
The eighth person (aṭṭhamaka) does not fully understand the latent tendency to ignorance, the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, and the latent tendency to conceit; but it is not the case that he does not fully understand the latent tendency to views and the latent tendency to doubt. The person endowed with the path of non-returning (anāgāmimagga-samaṅgī) does not fully understand the latent tendency to ignorance, the latent tendency to conceit, the latent tendency to views, and the latent tendency to doubt; but it is not the case that he does not fully understand the latent tendency to sensual lust and the latent tendency to repulsion. Setting aside the persons endowed with the two paths and the eighth person, the remaining persons do not fully understand the latent tendency to ignorance, and they do not fully understand the latent tendency to sensual lust, the latent tendency to repulsion, the latent tendency to conceit, the latent tendency to views, and the latent tendency to doubt.
