[1538] For whomever the latent tendency of sensual lust (kāmarāgānusaya), the latent tendency of repulsion (paṭighānusaya), the latent tendency of conceit (mānānusaya), the latent tendency of view (diṭṭhānusaya), and the latent tendency of doubt (vicikicchānusaya) are unabandoned, is the latent tendency of lust for existence (bhavarāgānusaya) … the latent tendency of ignorance (avijjānusaya) unabandoned for that person?
Yes.
Or, for whomever the latent tendency of ignorance is unabandoned, are the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt unabandoned for that person?
For the non-returner (anāgāmī), the latent tendency of ignorance and the latent tendency of conceit are unabandoned, but the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt are not unabandoned for him. For two persons, the latent tendency of ignorance, the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, and the latent tendency of conceit are unabandoned, but the latent tendency of view and the latent tendency of doubt are not unabandoned for them. For the worldling (puthujjana), the latent tendency of ignorance is unabandoned, and the latent tendency of sensual lust, the latent tendency of repulsion, the latent tendency of conceit, the latent tendency of view, and the latent tendency of doubt are unabandoned.
