[707] "For whomever the eye sense base (cakkhāyatana) will arise, will the ear sense base (sotāyatana) cease for that one?"
"Yes."
"Or rather, for whomever the ear sense base will cease, will the eye sense base arise for that one?"
"For those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the five-constituent [existence] (pañcavokāra), and for those who, having been reborn into the formless [realm] (arūpa), will attain final Nibbāna — as they are being reborn — the ear sense base of these will cease, but the eye sense base will not arise for them. For the others, both the ear sense base will cease and the eye sense base will arise."
