[726] For whomever the eye base (cakkhāyatana) will not arise, will the ear base (sotāyatana) not cease for him?
For beings in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those who, having been reborn in the formless realm (arūpa), will attain final Nibbāna, while these are being reborn — for them the eye base will not arise, but it is not the case that the ear base will not cease for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the five-constituent existence, for beings in their final existence in the formless realm, and for those who, having been reborn in the formless realm, will attain final Nibbāna, while these are passing away — for them both the eye base will not arise and the ear base will not cease.
Or, for whomever the ear base will not cease, will the eye base not arise for him?
Yes (āmantā).
