[1077] For whomever the eye-faculty (cakkhundriya) arises, will the ear-faculty (sotindriya) arise for him?
For those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the five-constituent existence (pañcavokāra), and for those who, after being reborn into the formless realm (arūpa), will attain final Nibbāna — while these are being reborn, the eye-faculty arises for them, but the ear-faculty will not arise for them. For the others who possess eyes, while they are being reborn, both the eye-faculty arises for them and the ear-faculty will arise.
Or, for whomever the ear-faculty will arise, does the eye-faculty arise for him?
For all who are passing away, and for those without eyes who are being reborn, the ear-faculty will arise for them, but the eye-faculty does not arise for them. For those who possess eyes, while they are being reborn, both the ear-faculty will arise for them and the eye-faculty arises.
