[1178] For whomever the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, will the wisdom faculty (paññindriya) … the mind faculty (manindriya) not arise for him?
For all beings at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind (citta), and at the moment of the arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind dissociated (vippayutta) from joy, for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for them the joy faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the mind faculty will not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind (pacchimacitta) associated (sampayutta) with joy, and for those endowed (samaṅgī) with the final mind associated with equanimity (upekkhā): for them the joy faculty does not arise, and the mind faculty will not arise.
Or, for whomever the mind faculty will not arise, does the joy faculty not arise for him?
At the moment of the arising of the final mind associated with joy: for them the mind faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the joy faculty does not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind associated with joy, and for those endowed with the final mind associated with equanimity: for them the mind faculty will not arise, and the joy faculty does not arise.
