[1177] For whomever the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, will the faith faculty (saddhindriya) not arise for him?
For all [beings] at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind (citta), at the moment of the arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind dissociated (vippayutta) from joy, for those attained to cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them the joy faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the faith faculty will not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind (pacchimacitta) associated (sampayutta) with joy, and for those endowed (samaṅgī) with the final mind associated with equanimity (upekkhā) — for them both the joy faculty does not arise and the faith faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever the faith faculty will not arise, does the joy faculty not arise for him?
At the moment of the arising of the final mind associated with joy — for them the faith faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the joy faculty does not arise for them. At the moment of the dissolution of the final mind associated with joy, and for those endowed with the final mind associated with equanimity — for them both the faith faculty will not arise and the joy faculty does not arise.
