[711] For whomever, wherever, the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, does the faith faculty (saddhindriya) not arise for that one there?
For those with roots (sahetuka) who are taking rebirth without joy, and, in the course of existence (pavatte), at the moment of arising of a mind (citta) dissociated from joy and associated with faith — for them there the joy faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the faith faculty does not arise for them there. For all [beings] at the moment of the dissolution of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from joy and dissociated from faith, and for non-percipient beings (asaññasattā) — for them there the joy faculty does not arise and the faith faculty does not arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the faith faculty does not arise, does the joy faculty not arise for that one there?
In the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from faith and associated with joy — for them there the faith faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the joy faculty does not arise for them there. For all [beings] at the moment of the dissolution of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from faith and dissociated from joy, and for non-percipient beings — for them there the faith faculty does not arise and the joy faculty does not arise.
