[641] For whom the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, does the faith faculty (saddhindriya) not arise for him?
For those with root-cause (sahetuka) taking rebirth (upapajjanta) without joy (somanassa), and, in the course of existence (pavatta), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated from joy and associated with faith (saddhā) — for them the joy faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the faith faculty does not arise for them. For all beings at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from joy and dissociated from faith, for those attained to cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them the joy faculty does not arise and the faith faculty does not arise.
Or, for whom the faith faculty does not arise, does the joy faculty not arise for him?
In the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from faith and associated with joy — for them the faith faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the joy faculty does not arise for them. For all beings at the moment of dissolution of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from faith and dissociated from joy, for those attained to cessation, and for non-percipient beings — for them the faith faculty does not arise and the joy faculty does not arise.
