[640] For whom the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, for him the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) does not arise?
For those being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising of a mind (citta) associated with equanimity — for them the joy faculty does not arise, yet it is not the case that the equanimity faculty does not arise for them. For all beings at the moment of dissolution of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from joy and dissociated from equanimity, for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them the joy faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty does not arise.
Or rather, for whom the equanimity faculty does not arise, for him the joy faculty does not arise?
