[1106] For whomever the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arises, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arise for that one?
At the moment of the arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of the final mind (pacchimacitta) associated with joy, and at the moment of the arising of that mind (citta) immediately after which the final mind associated with joy will arise: for those the joy faculty arises, but the equanimity faculty will not arise for them. For the others — those being reborn with joy and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of the arising of a mind associated with joy — for them both the joy faculty arises and the equanimity faculty will arise.
Or, for whomever the equanimity faculty will arise, does the joy faculty arise for that one?
For all at the moment of the dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, at the moment of the arising of a mind dissociated from joy, for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpannā), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasattā): for them the equanimity faculty will arise, but the joy faculty does not arise for them. For those being reborn with joy and, in the course of existence, at the moment of the arising of a mind associated with joy: for them both the equanimity faculty will arise and the joy faculty arises.
