[1142] For whomever, wherever, the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arises, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arise for that one there?
At the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of the final mind (pacchimacitta) associated with joy, and at the moment of arising of that mind (citta) immediately after which the final mind associated with joy will arise — for them there the joy faculty arises, but the equanimity faculty will not arise for them there. For the others — for those being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence (pavatta), at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy — for them there both the joy faculty arises and the equanimity faculty will arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the equanimity faculty will arise, does the joy faculty arise for that one there?
For all [beings] — at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, and at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from joy — for them there the equanimity faculty will arise, but the joy faculty does not arise for them there. For those being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy — for them there both the equanimity faculty will arise and the joy faculty arises.
