[595] For whomever, wherever, the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arises, does the faith faculty (saddhindriya) arise for that one there?
In the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) associated with joy (somanassa) but dissociated from faith (saddhā), the joy faculty arises for them there, but the faith faculty does not arise for them there. For those being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy and associated with faith, the joy faculty arises for them there and the faith faculty arises.
Or, for whomever, wherever, the faith faculty arises, does the joy faculty arise for that one there?
For those with roots (sahetuka) being reborn without joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with faith but dissociated from joy, the faith faculty arises for them there, but the joy faculty does not arise for them there. For those being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with faith and associated with joy, the faith faculty arises for them there and the joy faculty arises.
