[1029] For whomever the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arises, has the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arisen for that one?
Yes (āmantā).
Or, for whomever the equanimity faculty has arisen, does the joy faculty arise for that one?
For all [beings] at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind (citta), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind dissociated from joy (somanassavippayutta), for those who have attained cessation (nirodhasamāpanna), and for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta): for them the equanimity faculty has arisen, but the joy faculty does not arise for them. For those being reborn (upapajjantānaṃ) with joy, [and], in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy (somanassasampayutta): for them both the equanimity faculty has arisen and the joy faculty arises.
