[710] For whom, wherein, the joy faculty (somanassindriya) does not arise, does the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) not arise for that one therein?
For those being reborn with equanimity, and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) associated with equanimity — for them therein the joy faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that for them therein the equanimity faculty does not arise. For all beings at the moment of dissolution (bhaṅgakkhaṇa) of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from joy and dissociated from equanimity, and for the non-percipient beings (asaññasattā) — for them therein the joy faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty does not arise.
Or else, for whom, wherein, the equanimity faculty does not arise, does the joy faculty not arise for that one therein?
For those being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy — for them therein the equanimity faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that for them therein the joy faculty does not arise. For all beings at the moment of dissolution of mind, at the moment of arising of a mind dissociated from equanimity and dissociated from joy, and for the non-percipient beings — for them therein the equanimity faculty does not arise and the joy faculty does not arise.
