Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (2) · Vol. 39 · Section 519

[519] For whomever the life faculty (jīvitindriya) arises, does the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arise for that one? For those who are being reborn without joy (somanassa), and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising (uppādakkhaṇa) of a mind (citta) dissociated from joy, the life faculty arises for them, but the joy faculty does not arise for them. For those who are being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy, for them both the life faculty arises and the joy faculty arises. Or, for whomever the joy faculty arises, does the life faculty arise for that one? Yes (āmantā).
