[589] For whomever, wherever, the life faculty (jīvitindriyaṃ) arises, does the joy faculty (somanassindriyaṃ) arise for that one there?
For those being reborn without joy (somanassa), and, in the course of existence (pavatte), at the moment of arising of a mind (citta) dissociated from joy — for them, there, the life faculty arises, but the joy faculty does not arise for them there. For those being reborn with joy, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of arising of a mind associated with joy — for them, there, both the life faculty arises and the joy faculty arises.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the joy faculty arises, does the life faculty arise for that one there?
Yes (āmantā).
