[1060] For whomever, wherever, the life faculty (jīvitindriya) arises, has the joy faculty (somanassindriya) arisen for that one there?
For [beings of] the Pure Abodes (Suddhāvāsa) at the moment of arising of the rebirth mind (upapatti-citta), and for those being reborn among the non-percipient beings (asaññasatta) — for them there the life faculty arises, but the joy faculty has not arisen for them there. For the others, being reborn into the four-constituent (catuvokāra) and five-constituent (pañcavokāra) [planes], [and] at the moment of arising of mind (citta) in the course of existence (pavatti) — for them there both the life faculty arises and the joy faculty has arisen.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the joy faculty has arisen, does the life faculty arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the four-constituent and five-constituent [planes], at the moment of dissolution of mind in the course of existence — for them there the joy faculty has arisen, but the life faculty does not arise for them there. For those being reborn into the four-constituent and five-constituent [planes], at the moment of arising of mind in the course of existence — for them there both the joy faculty has arisen and the life faculty arises.
