Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (2) · Vol. 39 · Section 705

[705] For whomever the life faculty (jīvitindriya) does not arise there, does the joy faculty (somanassindriya) not arise for that one there? Yes. Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the joy faculty does not arise, does the life faculty not arise for that one there? For those being reborn without joy (somanassa), and, in the course of existence (pavatti), at the moment of arising of a mind (citta) dissociated from joy — for them, there, the joy faculty does not arise, yet it is not the case that the life faculty does not arise for them there. For all those passing away, and, in the course of existence, at the moment of dissolution of mind — for them, there, both the joy faculty does not arise and the life faculty does not arise.
