[849] For whomever the nose faculty (ghānindriya) will arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arise for him?
Those possessing a nose who, having been reborn with joy (somanassa), will attain final Nibbāna — for them the nose faculty will arise, but the equanimity faculty will not arise for them. For the others, both the nose faculty will arise and the equanimity faculty will arise.
Or, for whomever the equanimity faculty will arise, will the nose faculty arise for him?
Those who, having been reborn in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) or the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), will attain final Nibbāna — for them the equanimity faculty will arise, but the nose faculty will not arise for them. For the others, both the equanimity faculty will arise and the nose faculty will arise.
