Cakkhundarīya

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (2) · Vol. 39 · Section 1089

[1089] For whomever the nose faculty (ghānindriya) arises, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriya) arise for him? For beings in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) who are being reborn into the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for those possessed of a nose (saghānaka) who, having been reborn with joy (somanassa), will attain final Nibbāna — as these are being reborn, the nose faculty arises for them, but the equanimity faculty will not arise for them. For the other beings possessed of a nose who are being reborn, both the nose faculty arises and the equanimity faculty will arise for them. Or, for whomever the equanimity faculty will arise, does the nose faculty arise for him? For all who are passing away, and for those without a nose (aghānaka) who are being reborn, the equanimity faculty will arise for them, but the nose faculty does not arise for them. For those possessed of a nose who are being reborn, both the equanimity faculty will arise and the nose faculty arises for them.
