Cakkhundarīya

Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (2) · Vol. 39 · Section 1161

[1161] For whom the nose faculty (ghānindriya) does not arise, will the joy faculty (somanassindriya) not arise for him? For all who are passing away, and for those without nose who are being reborn — for them the nose faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that for them the joy faculty will not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and the formless sphere (arūpāvacara), and for those who, having been reborn with equanimity (upekkhā), will attain final Nibbāna — for these, as they are passing away, the nose faculty does not arise and the joy faculty will not arise. Or rather, for whom the joy faculty will not arise, does the nose faculty not arise for him? For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the sense sphere, and for those with nose who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for these, as they are being reborn, the joy faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that for them the nose faculty does not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those in their final existence in the form sphere and the formless sphere, and for those who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for these, as they are passing away, the joy faculty will not arise and the nose faculty does not arise.
