Abhidhammapiṭaka · Yamaka (2) · Vol. 39 · Section 1197

[1197] For whomever, wherever, the nose faculty (ghānindriya) does not arise, will the joy faculty (somanassindriya) not arise for that one there? For those passing away from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), for beings without a nose (aghānaka) who are being reborn into the sense sphere, and for beings of the form sphere (rūpāvacara): for them there the nose faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that for them there the joy faculty will not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere, for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta), for formless beings (arūpa), and for those who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for these as they are passing away: for them there the nose faculty does not arise, and the joy faculty will not arise. Or else: for whomever, wherever, the joy faculty will not arise, does the nose faculty not arise for that one there? For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the sense sphere, and for beings with a nose (saghānaka) who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for these as they are being reborn: for them there the joy faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that for them there the nose faculty does not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, for those in their final existence in the form sphere, for non-percipient beings, for formless beings, and for those who, having been reborn with equanimity, will attain final Nibbāna — for these as they are passing away: for them there the joy faculty will not arise, and the nose faculty does not arise.
