[1198] For whomever, wherever, the nose faculty (ghānindriyaṃ) does not arise, will the equanimity faculty (upekkhindriyaṃ) not arise for that one there?
For those passing away from the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), for those without a nose (aghānaka) who are being reborn into the sense sphere, and for beings of the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and of the formless sphere (arūpāvacara) — for them, there, the nose faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that for them, there, the equanimity faculty will not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbāna) in the sense sphere; for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere and in the formless sphere; for non-percipient beings (asaññasatta); and for those who, having been reborn with joy (somanassa), will attain final Nibbāna, as they are passing away — for them, there, the nose faculty does not arise and the equanimity faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever, wherever, the equanimity faculty will not arise, does the nose faculty not arise for that one there?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the sense sphere, and for those possessing a nose (saghānaka) who, having been reborn with joy, will attain final Nibbāna, as they are being reborn — for them, there, the equanimity faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that for them, there, the nose faculty does not arise. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere; for those in their final existence in the form sphere and in the formless sphere; for non-percipient beings; and for those who, having been reborn with joy, will attain final Nibbāna, as they are passing away — for them, there, the equanimity faculty will not arise and the nose faculty does not arise.
