[1160] For whomever the nose faculty (ghānindriya) does not arise, will the life faculty (jīvitindriya) not arise for that one?
For all who are passing away (cavanta) and for those without nose (aghānaka) who are being reborn — for them the nose faculty does not arise, but it is not the case that the life faculty will not arise for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna (parinibbanta) in the sense sphere (kāmāvacara), and for those in their final existence (pacchimabhavika) in the form sphere (rūpāvacara) and the formless sphere (arūpāvacara) — for them both the nose faculty does not arise and the life faculty will not arise.
Or rather, for whomever the life faculty will not arise, does the nose faculty not arise for that one?
For those in their final existence who are being reborn into the sense sphere — for them the life faculty will not arise, but it is not the case that the nose faculty does not arise for them. For those attaining final Nibbāna in the sense sphere, and for those in their final existence in the form sphere and the formless sphere — for them both the life faculty will not arise and the nose faculty does not arise.
