[124] Now at that time a novice named Kaṇṭaka, belonging to the Venerable Upananda the Sakyan, violated a bhikkhunī named Kaṇṭakī. Bhikkhus were annoyed, complained, and spread it about, saying: "How can a novice engage in such misconduct?" They reported this matter to the Blessed One.
"Bhikkhus, I allow you to expel a novice (sāmaṇera) possessed of ten factors: he is one who destroys living beings; he is one who takes what is not given; he is one who is not a celibate liver of the holy life; he is one who speaks falsehood; he is a drinker of intoxicants; he speaks dispraise of the Buddha; he speaks dispraise of the Dhamma; he speaks dispraise of the Saṅgha; he is one of wrong view; he is a violator of bhikkhunīs. Bhikkhus, I allow you to expel a novice possessed of these ten factors."
